Become a Member

The Richmond Fire Department is always looking for new members. It is important to keep our active membership roles at a number that allows us to respond to emergencies with adequate personnel. We cannot do it without volunteers and the help of the community. We provide all the training and will consider all applicants with the character and dedication that is required.
There are many different areas that you can choose to apply yourself and you don't necessarily have to go into burning building or be a medic. Some who join are involved with every aspect of the fire department, some are not. Medics, certified first responders, interior firefighters, exterior firefighters, helpers, drivers/pump operators for fire trucks, drivers for ambulances, fire police, dive team, rope rescue team and people to just generally help out. Retired? Consider being a ambulance driver or fire police. Become part of the Emergency Services and you will be glad you did.

Firefighter

We have needs for both interior and exterior firefighters. Interior firefighters are highly trained and perform our interior attack on fires as well as any emergencies that require air packs. They are trained through Ontario County's fire training facilities and through our fire department. Exterior firefighters are not required to go inside a burning building and perform most of their duties outside doing exterior attack on fires, ventilation, preparing hose lines for attack, setting up water supply etc. Some who choose do be exterior are also trained and cleared to wear air packs. All firefighters are trained to handle many emergency situations including, MVA's, extrication, water rescue, ice rescue, brush fires, patient handling, first aid and CPR. You can get as involved as you want.

EMS/Rescue Squad

EMS offers many different areas to be involved with. Become a medic, certified first responder or just a helper on the ambulance crew. All training is provided and the personal rewards are many. Become one of our ambulance crew members and ride with best.
Ambulance drivers are also needed especially for our day crews. Retired and looking for something to do? Consider becoming a driver on a ambulance crew.

Drivers/Pump Operators

Volunteer to be a driver. As has been mentioned several times before, we are always in need of drivers. You can be a trained driver for ambulance and fire apparatus. Our fire apparattus includes pumpers, tankers, rescue truck, rescue boat and a 8 wheel ATV rescue vehicle. All drivers are trained on operation of equipment and a Emergency Vehicle Operation Course is also offered. Drivers of pumper and tankers are also required to be trained as pump operators. Driver/Operators are very important. We can't do anything if we can't get the equipment to the scene.

Fire Police

Volunteer to be fire police. Fire police are in charge of controlling traffic and people at emergency scenes. They keep our people safe by closing roads down and directing traffic where needed. There are fire police courses offered and all training is provided.
